MacBook Touch in the Works?

07.26.08 | Comment?

The hot rumor today is that Apple is planning to unveil a top-secret laptop, our would-be MacBook Touch.

Reports surfaced this week that Steve Jobs and Co. are working wholeheartedly towards the completion of a touchscreen laptop, believed to be unveiled in just a few months from now.

There are no facts as of yet which show concretely that this mystery touchscreen is the MacBook Touch although this is the belief of many, and Apple fans from all over the world are dying to hear more on this rumor and have someone from the Apple mill set the record straight.

MacBook Rumor

The comments that started this whole thing came during a conference call this week which involved Apple CFO, Peter Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was quoted discussing the company’s second quarter earnings, mentioning “future product transition, which I can’t discuss today”.

The Apple MacBook Plus would be the computer of our dreams, capturing all the function and feature imaginable and combining that with Apple’s current technology, interface and design language.

We have seen before how Apple dominates the market and upstages pretty much all other competitors time and time again, and so it is no wonder that so many people are eager to hear more, focused on figuring out just what it was that Oppenheimer was speaking of and what they could possibly be bringing to the table now.

Rumors about an Apple tablet computer have been circulating for years and this is not the first time that legitimate media has reported on such news.

This time things are optimistically different, or at least we hope so. The vague hints that Apple has thrown our way have certainly got us all excited again and although some people don’t see the need for an Apple tablet, most of us would be eagerly waiting in line the second a confirmation was made on this story.

There are certainly non-believers who are sure this is just another rumor and nothing but, and that we are way off base. Take Michael Gartenberg, a technology analyst at Jupiter Research, who feels that:

A laptop line at a cheap price point aimed at the education market that’s built cheaper seems to make more sense to me. But in the end we’ll more than likely all be proven wrong, and Apple will produce something that has nothing to do with these things.

We will stay hopeful however, and be sure to keep you updated with any and all news on this story as it becomes available to us.
