There is news which tells us that OEMs may have some difficulties getting their hands on Intel Corp’s upcoming Atom chip through Q3.
There is a supply squeeze that is taking place in the industry, and this may be forced by the increasing trend toward low-end, ultraportable laptops.
Bill Calder, an Intel spokesman, has stated that
We are seeing better-than-anticipated demand and we are moving quickly to increase out output.
As well he noted that Intel’s 45-nm metal-gate manufacturing process means that the company can increase output fairly quickly.
Asustek is one of the PC OEMs that are noting this supply squeeze, and they plan to launch an Atom-basd version of their very popular Eee PC at Computex in June.
Keep in mind that additional PCs are expected by companies like Dell and Hewlett-Packard in the near future, and we will definitely keep you updated on any further news on this including any releases.
